Biden Plans To Release 1 Million Barrels Of Gasoline To Curb Northeast Prices: 'Because He's Unable To Drill Properly,' Trump Says
U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm announced Tuesday that the Biden administration has ordered the release of approximately 1 million barrels of gasoline from the nation’s reserves to lower pump prices in the Northeastern United States. The release will occur in 100,000-barrel increments, aimed at easing fuel costs between Memorial Day and July 4. The gasoline is expected to reach local retailers ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, providing relief to consumers at a critical time. "The Biden-Harris Administration is laser focused on lowering prices at the pump for American families, especially as drivers hit the road for summer driving season," the Department of Energy wrote in a statement. Why It Matters: Gasoline prices typically rise during the summer months due to increased demand as Americans travel more for vacations and other activities. This seasonal surge is a result of higher consumption rates, which naturally drives up prices. Warm weather and school holidays encourage road trips, causing a noticeable uptick in fuel usage across the country. Notably, gasoline prices are a ...Full story available on Benzinga.com

Gas Prices Set For Summer Spike: West Coast Consumers Already Paying More Than $4 A Gallon
Gas prices at the pump are on the rise and could lead to a higher national average next month, exacerbating inflation concerns and lowering the prospect of interest rate cuts during the first half of 2024. According to the American Automobile Association’s Gas Prices Monitor, the national average price of a gallon of regular gas hit $3.49 on Tuesday. Some states, particularly the higher taxed regions on the West Coast are already paying upwards of $4 a gallon, with California’s average hitting $4.92, Hawaii at $4.70, Washington at $4.33 and Nevada $4.22. Those paying the lowest are the states closest to domestic refining facilities around the Mexican Gulf and up through the Midwest. Wholesale Price Leaps As Ukraine Strikes Russia Refineries Much of the recent moves higher at the pump are due to higher wholesale gasoline prices on commodity exchanges. On Tuesday, RBOB Gasoline futures were down a shade after hitting their highest levels since August on Monday. The United States Gasoline Fund (NYSE:UGA) an exchange traded fund that tracks the price of wholesale gas futures, gained 1.7% to $71.58 on Monday, hitting its highest level since September. Ukraine Drones Target Russian Oil Installations: Why US Gasoline Prices Are At Risk
Ukraine drone attacks are increasingly targeting Russian infrastructure, and at the top of the list are oil and refining installations. Could this have a knock-on impact on gasoline prices in the U.S.? In the last two days, two Russian fuel depots have been damaged — one critically — in separate Ukrainian drone and rocket attacks. Industry sources, reported by Reuters, said the attacks left the crude distillation plant at Norsi so damaged that around half of the refinery’s output has been cut. That’s significant, as the refinery is capable of producing 340,000 barrels of gasoline a day. That equates to 11% of Russia’s gasoline. Also Read: Geopolitical Unrest Halts BP, Adnoc’s $2B Bid For Israeli Gas Firm Russia Bans Gasoline Exports The Kremlin already banned exports of gasoline starting on March 1, it said, to help lower high domestic prices and to coincide with spring maintenance and summer holidays. 3 Killed In Houthi Missile Attack, Oil Prices Dip From 4-Month Highs, Gaza Cease-Fire Talks Stall
Three people were reportedly killed and several others injured after an anti-ship ballistic missile launched by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen struck bulk carrier M/V True Confidence in the Gulf of Aden late on Wednesday. The crew abandoned the Barbados-flagged, Liberia-owned vessel following the attack, which caused significant damage. At least three of the injured were reported to be in critical condition. U.S. Central Command said on X that coalition warships were responding and “are addressing the situation.” It added: “This is the fifth ASBM fired by Houthis in the last two days. Two of these ASBMs impacted two shipping vessels — M/V MSC Sky II and M/V True Confidence — and one ASBM was shot down by USS Carney. “These reckless attacks by the Houthis have disrupted global trade and taken the lives of international seafarers.” While the attacks have driven many freight carriers to avoid the Red Sea/Suez Canal/Mediterranean route to Europe and the U.S. east coast, some persist, as the alternative Cape of Africa route is longer and can add up to two weeks to a journey. “This situation has led to an immediate contraction in market capacity and a surge in shipping ...Full story available on Benzinga.com

Gasoline Pump Prices Near 1-Year High: Is This An Inflationary Threat?
Gasoline prices at the pump are on the rise again, after falling to a two-and-a-half-year low in early January. On Wednesday, the national average price rose to $3.30 a gallon, up 2.2 cents from a week ago, and up 25 cents from $3.05 hit on January 11, which was the lowest since June 2021. Underlying crude oil prices have been rising in recent weeks with Nymex WTI crude futures up 10% since the start of the year as rising tensions in the Middle East and attacks on oil shipments in the Red Sea have raised concerns over supply. On Wednesday, WTI was up fractionally at $78.90 a barrel, while the United States Oil Fund (NYSE:USO), an exchange-traded fund that tracks a basket of oil prices, was standing close to a three-month high at $73.84. Oil Prices Up As Iran Tests Ballistic Missiles, OPEC Raises Economic Forecasts
Oil prices rose on Tuesday pushing up average gasoline prices at the pump on concerns supply could be disrupted as Iran tested a ballistic missile in the Gulf of Oman, while demand hopes were led by OPEC raising its economic forecasts. Nymex WTI, the U.S. benchmark crude oil futures contract, was up 1.8% in afternoon trading at $78.27 a barrel — its seventh-consecutive daily gain. Closing in on the $80-a-barrel mark would take it to its highest level since November. Brent crude, the European benchmark, was up 1.2% at $82.97 a barrel, while the United States Oil Fund (NYSE:USO) an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that tracks the price of light-sweet crude, climbed 1% to $72.80. Iran Launches Missiles Iran said on Tuesday that it had launched long-range ballistic missiles from one of its warships in the Gulf of Oman for the first time, firing two projectiles capable of striking targets within a range of 1,700 kilometers, or 1,050 miles. The missile, according to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. (IRGC), traveled 750km, before ...Full story available on Benzinga.com
